Can a horror movie be an analogy of life?

How tragic it would be if we were living inside the cube, believing oh so innocently that we knew the way out, only to be taught in every room that we aren't anything more than rats in a maze? Better yet... If you were smart enough to find the way out you'd die before you left? Funny.
